Oil Tycoon! 5.6 will be free to the public, and it will use advertisements in-game. As an advertiser, you can have an advertisement linking back to your company's website within Oil Tycoon! Read on for details. How does it work? Every time a player starts the new version of Oil Tycoon!, a banner will be displayed at the top of the screen. The banner is present in the game for 60 seconds before another banner is chosen to be displayed. If the user clicks on a banner, an Internet browser window will be displayed with a page corresponding to the advertisement. New banners are downloaded to the user's machine periodically. Oil Tycoon! 5.6 Free Edition is currently in development. You will not be charged for your banner displays until after it is released. Oil Tycoon! 5.6 Free Edition has a target release date of January 15th, 2001. What are the requirements for the banner? The banner must: Be 468 pixels wide x 60 pixels high Be less than or equal to 20KB in size Not be for a site containing adult material or promoting illegal activities The banner is typically an animated image file containing an advertisement for a website. When the user clicks the banner, he or she will go to the specified website. The banner can also consist of an HTML file and a collection of associated files. In this case, Oil Tycoon will load the HTML file and display it, along with any indicated graphics. This kind of banner can consist of up to 10 different files (including the HTML file itself), but the total size of all the files must be no more than 20KB. The advantage of this kind of banner is greater flexibility in the design -- you can even include dynamic HTML and interactive forms! The HTML code must display properly in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and up, and the entire HTML page must fit within the 468x60 window provided within Oil Tycoon! For technical information on creating a good HTML file, click here. How much does it cost? The price of the advertisement space depends on how many times you would like your banner displayed. It costs only $25 per thousand banner displays. That's as low as $0.90 per hour of in-game advertisement space! And the price per thousand goes down the more blocks you purchase!
